50 States Print
In honor of their 50th Anniversary, The University & College Designers Association (UCDA) invited fifty designers to design a piece to commemorate the occasion. Selected as one of those designers, and working with Scott Moore of Moore Wood Type in Gahanna, Ohio, I had letterpress wood cuts of all fifty states (plus the District of Columbia) made at 4 or 5 random sizes; knowing that I would ultimately collage them all together into one print. Nine colors later--and countless passes through my letterpress--the 50 States print was achieved. Not to scale, nor geographically accurate. Along the way, UCDA commissioned Base Press to print a suite of prints for them (in an edition of 50 naturally, for all 50 states). They used the prints as premium gifts for fundraising. I split the print run in half: half printed on Fluorescent White, and half on Pearl White, 110 lb. Neenah 100 % Cotton Cover.
